WILLIAMS' CAB
c. 1929Robert James Williams (Jack) and his 3 children, Jean, Doris and Noel, in 2 wheel cab with one grey horse and one dark horse, in front of decorative white picket fence surrounding Karrakatta Cemetry.
Known as 'Jack'. Son of English migrants R.J.W. was born in the Western Goldfields. Married Daisy Elizabeth Geary at Christ Church Claremont March 1913. Children: Jim, Arthur, Noel (1915 - ), Doris (Dunn, 1917 - 2000 ) and Jean (Mulder, 1922 - 2015 ). Also known as 'Cabbie' Williams. Lived at 22 Gugeri Street later site of Coles Supermarket. He started as a butcher in Cottesloe, and also worked as a timber cutter, before operating a horse drawn cab service opposite the Claremont Station. He is believed to have held the last licence for horse drawn cabs in Western Australia. Bought 5 1/2 acres in Davies Road and moved there around 1945. (House possibly built from material salvaged from demolition of Gugeri Street house. Council reclaimed about 2 acres for the golf course. Sally, the grey horse was a brumby from around Perry Lakes, where she went if she escaped.
