'Knutsford' Stables

Historical information

Knutsford was formerly home of the Sandover family 1896-1916 where the entry was from Perth-Fremantle Road. (Lot 616/718) The next owner was John Shaw Mackey, a pastorlist from Roy Hill Station in Nullague. Then it was owned by an Ivy Isobel and Aubrey John McGlew frrom 1925-1928/9. Mr George Tueton Deans owned the property from 1928/9 until his death in 1938. The last private owner was James Walsh. It was used as a training hospital for women who served as volunteers in the voluntary aid detachments and emergency service companies during World War II. In 1951, the property was taken over by the Public Works Department and finally in 1966 it went to Christchurch Grammar School where there is now a boarding house.
