Overview

Sepia print of head and shoulders studio portrait of Alick Gunn in World War I army uniform. He has a steady gaze and neatly combed, wavy hair. His tunic with breast pocket flaps and epaulettes is buttoned to the neck and rising sun badges are attached to the collar. (b) In copperplate writing on the rear [Yours Truly/ Pte Alick Gunn] and hand printed [Alick William Gunn/ Jan 1893 - 1954(?)/ Brother of Ivy Gunn/ Fought in France in/ World War I].

Historical information

Alick William Frederick Gunn was born c1892 in Ballarat, Victoira. He was a stockman and lived with his family in Griver Street, Cottesloe.

Enlisted in the 44th Battalion on 18 June 1916. Was wounded in action in 1918. He returned to WA in 1918 and was discharged 1920.

Alick married Grace Alma Atkinson in Claremont in 1921. Son: William Alexander (b.1945). Alick died in 1956.
