2 x B/W bust portrait photographic prints of Walter Dethridge Sr. a) Image shows a mature man with a receding hairline, with a cleanly shaven jaw and a full moustache. He is wearing round spectacles, and a light coloured checked jacket and matching waistcoat. He has a soft striped tie with a stiff white collar. Printed beneath [ DETHRIDGE 1911-12]. b) Image similar to a), he is wearing a dark jacket with matching waistcoat, and has a sprig of white flowers attached to his coat lapel. In front of his second waistcoat button hangs a quatrefoil medallion with a 6 in the centre. Printed beneath [DETHRIDGE 1914-15].

Historical information

Walter Dethridge was born in Richamnod, Victoria in 1870 to James Dethridge and Mary Kipling. He owned a tailor shop in Footscray, Victoria called the 'People's Tailor' in the early 1890s.

Dethridge married Florence Isabel Maud Boynton Lang in 1897 in Coolgardie. Children include Doris Annie (b.1899), Frank Kipling (1902-1984), Walter John (1900-1978), Marjorie (b.1906) and Nance Jessie (b.1908).

He lived on Victoria Avenue, Claremont and served as a Councillor from 1911 - 1915.

Dethridge and his brother Frank then had a tailoring business on Barrack Street in Perth

Lived on Marine Parade, Cottelsoe in th 1950s.

He died in 1958, aged 88, and is memorialised in the Crematorium Rose Gardens in Karrakatta.
