He married Eleanor Jessica Boddington (1870-1918) in Marble Bar in 1901. Children: John Birdwood (b.1908) and Beatrice Eleanor 'Betty' (b.1911)
Married his second wife Alice Gertrude Griffith in 1919.
Children Judith Mary (b.1920), Francis Richard 'Dick' (b.1923) and Allison June (b.1925).
Alfred was a Claremont Councillor from 1916-1921.
The family lived at 46 Victora Avenue which was known as Ivanhoe.
