HILLVIEW LOOKING (KATA DJINANGINY)

10 September 1999. Tjyllyngoo was first was commissioned by the Town in 1999 to produce two talking sticks, to depict the local flora and fauna, and represent the people and their ‘cultural and spiritual’ connections to the land.
Tjyllyngoo was recommissioned in 2011 to produce a replica of the original artwork.
Artist statement: The replacement of the talking sticks named ‘Hillview Looking’ or ‘Kata Djinanginy’ Aboriginal Public Artwork was completed in February and installed at Hillview Community Bushland on Wednesday 16 March 2011.
This commission was undertaken by the original artist Tjyllyungoo, Lance Chadd.
The artwork is a replica of the theme and style of the original artwork that was commissioned in 1999, by Tjyllyungoo, Lance Chadd depicting local flora, fauna and people of the bushland.
Kata Djenangini ‘Hillview Looking’ was named as it is located on the top of the reserve overlooking the land.
