CONJUNCTION (THEME, VIBRANT LIFESTYLE)

2011
Historical information

Artist statement: The design is directly relevant to the site which is derived from the names of the two roads that intersect at the site, Archer Street and Planet Street.
Andrew describes the artwork as:
‘Representing Archer Street, a large arrow pierces the ground. In the flights of the arrow, small cut out figures represent local residents and passers-by walking, meeting and having coffee. Three small children are shown sliding down the curved surface of the arrow’
‘Referencing Planet Street, where the arrow makes contact with the pavement, a series of stainless steel ellipses are set in the paving, representing the nine planets of our solar system. Each of the discs has the name of the planet engraved into its surface.’
