Historical information

Artist statement: “The artwork entitled ‘After The Rain’ by artist Shaibu Kanyemba be purchased by the Town at a cost of $22,000 for installation on the corner of Albany Highway and Leonard Street as one of the Town’s ten public artworks for 2011.”
The artwork was on display at Cottesloe’s ‘Sculpture by the Sea Exhibition’
It was considered that the artwork entitled ‘After the Rain’ by artist Shaibu Kanyemba (from Zimbabwe) was highly suitable because the subject of the artwork is new life, which is fitting given the Town’s new ‘Life’ direction as part of the ‘Plan for the Future’ endorsed by Council. The description for the artwork states;
“The first rains in Africa are sudden, powerful and bring with them an explosion of growth. After the rain nature brings all things to life”
The artwork is made of black serpentine and the African theme and artist would provide a link to the Town’s growing multi cultural community, is beautifully crafted and deemed an inspiring piece.
