LACE, MACHINE, EDGING

Overview

This machine lace edging very closely resembles well made hand bobbin lace. The cloth stitch scrolling design, what look like plaited brides, the footside and the gimp, emulate hand bobbin lace. Made late 19th century or early 20th C.

Fine lace edgings were much valued and sought after for garments over the centuries, indicative of style, wealth, prestige and status.
