SECTION, LACE, TAPE
The lappet, originally 1300 mm long, of which this is a section, was worn by donor’s grandmother Fanny Gooch, who married in 1890 and who with her husband was one of the pioneer settlers in the Gascoyne region of WA.
Design consists of three flower sprays. Each flower has 5 petals and in succession, three, four and five leaves in the spray. Interior of petals and leaves worked in buttonhole stitch variations, 7 different ones on the section. The brides connecting the design elements are most unusual, almost ladder like.
The lappet was in very poor condition. Threads broken, sections worn completely away. Thus the best section was cut off to keep. Another section put in study box and other bits given to members for reference
