c. 1930 - 1939In the depression of the 1930s, fabrics, threads and handcraft materials in short supply. Folk could not afford luxury goods or fine accessories for the home. This crocheted mat was part of a set, given as a wedding present in 1932, to form part of a young lady’s trousseau.
White square crocheted milk jug cover, 140 x 140mm. Centre of mat has small lattice design with ‘MILK’ in centre. The edge has an attractive more open design with rectangular blocks. Around this are chain stitch loops each with a green & white bead, 12 on each side.
