Overview

Student Nurses Association Royal College of Nursing silver plated and enamel badge. It features a Maltese cross shape with blue enamel banners reading 'STUDENT NURSES ASSOCN' and 'ROYAL COLLEGE OF NURSING' separated by two red roses, representing England.
The centre of the badge depicts the traditional nursing Lamp of Knowledge (or Lamp of Learning) inside a laurel wreath.
The reverse has the maker's details 'Toye & Co London' impressed into the metal, and a pin clasp for attachment.

Historical information

The Student Nurses Association (SNA) was founded in 1925 as an affiliated body to give student nurses social benefits, though they could not yet vote on college policy.
In 1968, the SNA amalgamated with the Royal College of Nursing, and membership officially opened to nursing students as full members.

This membership badge therefore dates to pre-1968.
