Overview

Silver fork of Dutch origin. Floral design on shaped handle with another pattern near tine end and cut out design above tines. Tines are shaped and cut out on both outside tines. Small row of dots run down each outside tine. Silver hallmarks on back of handle.

Historical information

Collection of items brought from Ballarat to Bedfordale by the Champion family in c1908. The family operated an orchard and quickly established themselves in the community. In 1911 Joseph Champion was elected to the Armadale Kelmscott Road Board and served on it for 10 years.

The items were passed on to Irene Douglas (nee Champion) who continued to use them in her home.

Statement of significance

LOW

Collection of objects valued enough to be brought with the Champion family from Ballarat Victoria to Bedfordale in c1908. The Champion family established an orchard on the property and in 1911 Joseph Champion was elected to the Armadale Kelmscott Road Board and served on it for 20 years. The items were used in the family home for many years and passed down through the family. These items were passed onto Irene Douglas (nee Champion).

The collection represents valued items that provided a link to past family members.
