KEYRING, WEST LOTHIAN DISTRICT COUNCIL

In the 1980s and 1990s a number of formal and informal Sister City relationships between local governments in Australia and the world were created. In 1996, after 18 months of research and negotiations, the City of Armadale and The West Lothian Council (Scotland) entered into an informal Sister City Relationship. The Sister City Relationship meant the two local governments would promote each region in their local museums and schools, to exchange and have input into cultural events and to promote potential community and business links between the regions.

The West Lothian Council, located west of Edinburgh. In 1994 had a population of around 150,000 people and contained towns named Armadale and Westfield within its boundaries.

Exchanges between the two regions soon started. Members of the Armadale Bowling Club visited West Lothian in 1996. In 1997 Cr Frank Green and Cr Terry Holton both made visits to The West Lothian Council while on private holidays. Both were presented with a variety of gifts promoting their district.

In 2005 Cr Willie Dunn from West Lothian Council visits the City and was presented with a COA engraved crest, COA tie, scarf, calculator and book on Bungendore Park
