Overview

Square dark blue velvet case with two gold hinges at the back and a gold clasp on the front. When opened it has an octagonal wooden cloth covered base to accommodate the plaque with a light blue ribbon which sits under the plaque to make it easy to remove and a ribbon attached to the lid and base to prevent the lid from opening too far.

Historical information

In September 1992 a delegation of Malaysian Justices of the Peace visited the City of Armadale and received an official welcome where they presented this plaque to the City. The plaque represents the role local governments play in developing and promoting relationships between visiting associations and delegations from foreign nations and the relationship local government has with the Justice of the Peace legal program.

Statement of significance

This object is part of a collection of items that represent the role that local government has played in providing services to its local community. The City of Armadale was formed in 1894 as the Kelmscott Road Board and has grown from a time when it only provide roads and drains to today when the City provides a wide range of services including waste collection, libraries, museum, parks, sporting facilities, building licenses, environmental services, public events, street lighting, ranger services and community facilities.
