BAG, SHOPPING - ARMADALE SHOPPING CITY
2008Orange square shaped bag with two handles. White transfer text [Armadale / Shopping City] and triangle symbol on front. Inside is a white tag with blue text. Inside fits a white cardboard base to square off base of the bag.
This bag was produced in 2008 as part of the promotion for the reopening of the renovated Armadale Shopping City. The bag was given to shoppers in 2008 who attended the shopping centre in the weeks after it fully reopened following a major renovation that expanded, modernised and redesigned the centre.
Reusable polypropylene bags were introduced at Australian supermarkets in 2002 and later large retail outlets as a way to replace single use plastic bags. This was one of the early moves in a long campaign to ban single use plastic bags. In 2018 Western Australia banned the use of lightweight single use plastic shopping bags. This is all part of a larger national strategy that plans to see a ban on a wide range of single use plastic items ranging from straws, heavyweight plastic bags, plastic bowls, plates and cutlery to plastic cups and lids for takeaway drinks.
