Flat aluminium tag with hand impressed name 'C ARMEL OO,REILLY'
Metal surface somewhat marked and is slighly bent/creased in places.
Ends curved.

Historical information

Found between 14-17 March 2016 during restoration of 98 Stirling Terrace, Toodyay (also known as Mrs O'Reilly's Cottage).
Had slipped behind the skirting board beside the fireplace in the dining room. Found with a catalogue remnant (Shire of Toodyay accession number 2017.2 )
Handed to museum curator by Shire Administrative staff in November 2016

Contextual information

Carmel O'Reilly is presumed to be a family member of Dr. Patrick J. O'Reilly, who served as Toodyay's longest-running resident doctor from 1952 until his retirement in 1977. The location where it was found, 98 Stirling Terrace (historically known as Demasson's House and Shop), was leased by the Toodyay Road Board to Dr. O'Reilly in 1963 for use as his medical surgery and family residence. Because the family lived there for so long, the heritage-listed property is widely known by locals as "Mrs. O'Reilly's Cottage". Mrs O'Reilly was given life-time occupancy of the dwelling after her husband died in 1981; she remained there until she died in October 2005.
The aluminium name tag was created using a mechanical metal stamper, possibly a coin operated stamper located at transit hub used to make personal luggage or property tags from the 1930s up to the 1960s.
