Historical information

On 22nd December 1955, a new, free library opened for the citizens of Claremont, the 1st Metropolitan Library in Perth. There were 8,500 books including reference books. The next Library was built in 1979 as an addition to the Claremont Council Chamber's building. The library had previously been located in the basement of the Council Chambers - this room was then used in 2006 as the Archives room. The fire in November 2010 destroyed the library & its contents. It has been reestablished in The Hub (Previously the Town Hall and prior to that the Methodist Church.). It opened officially on 16 December 2011 but had its public opening on 16 January 2012.
