Colour prints. (a) North East face of cream Donnybrook stone memorial with flying buttresses and white marble plaque with inscription [ERECTED BY/ THE RESIDENTS OF/ THE DISTRICT OF/ CLAREMONT]. (b) North West face with inscription on plaque listing all conflicts in which citizens were involved between 1914 and 1972, a pledge to support the 'motherland' and beneath this in a band of grey granite [THIS STONE/ WAS LAID ON SUNDAY/ 24TH SEPTEMBER 1922.]

Historical information

Situated on the corner of Stirling Highway and Bay View Terrace. Built of Donnybrook stone with marble inserts, the memorial cost 678 pounds in 1922. Financed by public subscription and 20 pound donation by Town of Claremont. Memorial designed by Edwin Summerhayes. Damaged by moisture and vibration from vehicles, it was restored at a cost of approximately $10000 in 1994. It was rededicated in October 1995, 73 years to the day after it was first erected. The foundation stone was laid by Talbot Hobbs and opened in 1923.
