Katanning War Memorial in Prosser Park
1921A black and white photograph of a statue of a soldier standing to attention, his riffle at his right hand side. This statue is on a plitnth on a three tiered base. On the the plinth is a brass wreath. There are floral wreaths placed around the base of the monument. There is dirt surrounding the base of the monument and there is a wooden railing fence in the backgroun.
The Katanning War Memorial was erected on the corner of Prosser Oval in 1921. The area was then known as the Recreation Ground. The Memorial was paid for by public subscription and there was great controversy about where it should be placed in town. When erected the soldier was facing the street and looking over the town. It was changed in the 1980's with the development of the area as Prosser Park.
