First World War medal group issued to Private James Arthur DENNEY, 1743, of the 11th Battalion -
a. 1914-15 Star Medal - 4-pointed bronze medal, ensigned with a crown, crossed swords, oak wreath, cypher of King George V and “1914-15” centered. Medal has original silk ribbon in watered colours of red, white and blue.
b. 1914 – 1918 British War medal original ribbon of orange silk, with borders of dark blue, black & white, and the original cream coloured cardboard box that the medal would have been received.
c. 1914-1918 Victory Medal - bronze round medal inside the original box with original silk ribbon, of 7 defined colours representing the each allied country’s colours.

Contextual information

These First World War medal's were issued to Private James Arthur DENNEY, 1743. James enlisted on the 14 January 1915, at the age of 22 years. He departed from Fremantle in April 1915, Western Australia, on board the HMAT A8 Argyllshire, and was attached to the 11th Battalion, 4th Reinforcement. James was killed in action 5 months later, on the 28 June1915 at Gallipoli.
