MERRALLS, WILLIAM AS A YOUNG MAN
c. 1870B/W Studio portrait of William Merralls. He is wearing an open, three-quarter length coat with contrasting collar over a jacket, waistcoat and white shirt with bow tie. His right hand is resting on a cane and his left holding gloves and a bowler hat. The frond of a parlour palm is on the left, and across the bottom is [Richards & Co] a crest and [49 STURT ST./ BALLARAT].
William (Bill) Merralls was born in England. He was employed by J&W Bateman's stock and station agency based in Fremantle and lived in Cottelsoe with his family. He married Emily Bray in Victoria and then moved to Western Australia. They had daughters Doris Edna Merralls (b.1901) and Elaine Ford Merralls (b.1913).
