Overview

B/W print on cream card. Head and shoulders image of Harold Cargeeg. He has short hair parted in the middle and is wearing an Australian Army uniform with a Rising Sun badge on the collar under a heavy Australian Army great coat with the collar turned up. On the bottom right corner is the photographer's name [Lafayette Studios/ Perth WA]. On the rear, written in ink is [Uncle Harold/ Spencer Cargeeg].

Historical information

Harold was the eldest son of George and Louisa Cargeeg. Born and educated in South Australia and moved with his 7 siblings to Perth, WA in 1895, then to The Grange, Claremont, in 1907 and in 1913 to the family's Parry Street residence, Keswick. Harold enlisted in 1916. and was sent to France,arriving in 1918. Returned and remained a bachelor living in the family home after his parents' deaths and until he moved to an Inglewood nursing home in 1960. Harold managed The Herald Printing House, went into the real estate business with his brother, Garfield, and assisted with the family's Australind and Herne Hill properties.
