EDIS, DORIS NEE MERRALLS ON HER WEDDING DAY

Born Doris Edna Merralls, eldest daughter of William and Emily Merralls, 28 June, 1901. Lived in Cottesloe. Educated at Methodist Ladies' College and Princess May High School. Employed as secretary/typiste to General Manager of stock and station agents J&W Bateman in Fremantle. Married John Edward George Edis in 1933 at the Methodist Church, Claremont, and moved to Wiluna where he gained mine employment. Returned just prior to birth of son and lived in a rented (now demolished) house in Victoria Avenue, almost opposite the jetty. She and her husband bought a house in Walter Street in late 1940s/early 1950s and remained until John retired in 1968 when they moved to Kalamunda. She later moved to a nursing home in Como, where she celebrated her 100th birthday. The Governor, Major General John Sanderson, an army friend of her son, presented the Queen's and other's greetings. She died on 24 May 2009, just weeks before her 108th birthday.
