B/W Print. (a) Studio portrait of James Good Caporn and his wife Sarah. A bearded man, he is dressed in white shirt, dark tie and jacket and lighter trousers, and is seated on a wooden stool. His right arm is resting on top of a iron lace balustrade behind which Sarah is standing. A solid woman with hair drawn back, she is wearing a dark, boned bodice and skirt. The bodice has full sleeves, is front buttoned and has a high neck finished with a brooch. A backdrop with palms is behind them. (b) Handwritten on the rear [Sarah Tonkin with her husband/ James Good Caporn./ Parents of Edith Grace Caporn/ Grandparents of Peter John Mews]. And in a different hand [Great Grandparents of/ Christopher John Mews/ Great Great G Parents of/ Thomas and Juanita Mews].

Historical information

James Caporn was born in Perthshire, Scotland in 1834. Came to Wesern Australia in 1842 with his family.

Married Sarah Tonkin in 1862. Children:
