1997Piece of whale bone , carved into shape of a sperm whale. Painted black, set into a piece of curved bone at the base. Small piece of oval shaped bone stuck on the side.
Pieces of bone were often carved by whalers into shapes and used as ornaments.

From the Acquisition Form in 2005: Blue whale washed ashore at Frenchman's Bay in the 60s was brought to Cheynes Beach Whaling Co. Whale bone carved from a shoulder blade (1997) done by Tom {possibly from the blue whale]. Donation included a painted ear drum from the blue whale.
