LOGBOOK CHEYNES 1959–60
1957A large square shaped book with a hard cover in light blue. The document is bound with cotton and has white fabric tape on the spine.
The logbook is from the SS Cheynes, the Cheynes Beach Whaling Station's first steam Powered whale chaser. Pages are filled in by First Mate James A. Tough and signed by Captain Axel H. Christensen. The logbook gives an account of the working of the vessel and crew from 18/05/1959 to 12/05/1960, including whale sightings and whales caught.

The document is one of the logbooks from when the Cheynes Beach Whaling Station was operational. It provides data and narrative of the events onboard at that time.
The logbook is a unique item, and is locally and nationally significant to Albany and Australia’s maritime, economic and social history.
