Overview

Six postcards that would have been joined together, as see by the perforated edges. Three views of the whaling station, one view of a dead sperm whale, and one view of Albany townsite. Each has an annotation on the front and a description of the view on the back.

Historical information

The post cards were purchased by a tourist visiting the site in 1976, prior to closure in 1978.

Contextual information

The postcards demonstrate that the whaling station was a tourist destination prior to becoming a museum. They also show the different social attitudes of the time, for example, the image of a dead whale on one postcard and whales processing on another. The images provide historical information about the site and the area.
