ICE CHEST: WOODEN FRAME; ENAMELLED WINDOWS

c. 1920
Overview

Ice Chest: Wooden box shaped frame with enamelled windows on lid and front. The cupboard door also has an enamelled window. It rests on four square feet 10cm from the ground. The front has a wooden flap that can be lifted to reveal the enamelled white bowl. The lid opens to reveal a tin lining and tin tray; the base of this has an oval opening. The cupboard door is attached with two hinges at the right edge and can be closed with a special security lock (lock and hinges are tin). Inside the cupboard is a tin flat tray and a pipe vertically attached. It has a white enamelled lining. A small wooden flap is secured to the edge near the base and can be lifted to reveal a white and blue enamelled bowl. Ice Chest: a block of ice was placed in the top and the lid closed. As the ice melted it cooled the food in the lower section, and the water ran through a pipe to a bowl underneath.
