MEMORIAL: WOODEN PLAQUE IN MEMORY OF CORP. F N A SMITH

Overview

Memorial Plaque: Wooden rectangular tablet with embossed ornate carving in different wood underneath it a rectangular brass plate with black printing.

Plaque reads:

"In affectionate memory of

CORPORAL F.H.A. SMITH

DIED FROM WOUNDS RECEIVED IN ACTION 1ST MARCH 1917

AGED 28

A FAITHFUL WORKER AND LAY-READER IN THIS CHURCH

Placed here by his loving sister

R.I.P'.

This tablet is very similar to 1986.262 but smaller and without the pillar and ornate carved border.

Historical information

The memorial tablet hung in St Hugh's Anglican Church, Jolimont until the church became a Catholic church mid-20th cnetury.

It was probably carved by Mr Frank J. Crockett, a parishioner who made other items for the church including:
