KNITTING, MISERS PURSE
c. 1700 - 1709A early knitted miser’s purse which has been in the donor’s family in Malta since 1700s and well used. Cotton used was unique to Malta, versatile and tough, called 'WANDA MUNDI the Wonder of the World.' See notes by Roger Vella-Bonavita Gourd shape, wider at one end 100mm wide but narrow at other end 45 mm. opening in middle, 120mm long. Rows of patterned knitting, lacy look. Both ends taper to point at which there is a small tassel, 30mm long. Considered too fragile to wash, as several stitches broken, so vacuumed.
