LACE,TAPE, MAT
An elaborate tape lace doyley. Machine made cotton tape, outlines the design elements of the seven concentric circles which are then filled with a variety of hand stitched needlelace fillings. The buttonhole brides with picots are most unusual.
With the advent of publication of women’s magazines, in late 19th and early 20th centuries, tape lace was a popular needlecraft and used for costume accessories, quicker and easier than bobbin and needlelace. Also used for many household items. Had a revival in the 1990s with much work produced in China and exported.
