KELMSCOTT SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION SASH
c. 2007A dark navy strip of polyester fabric with a fringe at either end.
The face side has the school badge located towards one end and text [Class of 2007] on the other.
The reverse side has a maker's label sewn into the seam of the fringe.
Issued to all year 12 students at Kelmscott Senior High School to be worn at the graduation assembly (at the school) and at the formal graduation ceremony which was held at UWA in Winthrop Hall.
Students were also gifted a pen and keyring with our graduation certificates.
They issued the same sashes every year to the year 12 graduating class, just changed the dates on them.
The graduation assembly at the school included a breakfast for us in the gym, with staff and then a full school assembly with the address from the principal, head boy and girl, the year co-ordinator, chaplain, student councillors and a performance from a year 12 band. The band wasnt the official school band, it was four of the year 12 boys who had formed their own band and asked to play a few songs. They called themselves 7 Hairy Legs, I remember it being something about one of them shaving one leg either while drunk or as a bet, or maybe both, so between them the rest of the band only had 7 hairy legs. I think it was a name made-up in a moment of panic. I remember they played a Hunters & Collectors song.
The assembly was at the end of the year after wed all finished our exams, held in the morning and we were all allowed to leave school afterwards. Everyone hung around for a while on the oval getting shirts signed, or signature books, getting photos, making sure everyone would stay in touch. There was much crying from some of the girls.
