Overview

Colour print. View taken from the northern side of Gugeri Street with rose beds in the foreground. The entrance to the public bar is across the corner with windows facing north and east. Between the verandah posts are metal rails depicting a musical score. The building is painted cream and the balcony has a wooden railing between the posts and on the north and east sides are white blinds with clear eliptical sections. Down Bay View Terrace is the high gabled roof of Claremont Arcade and next to that the upper floor of Jacobsens' Pharmacy.

Historical information

Built 1902. Before being named Hotel Claremont, the building was known as Fink's Hotel and McManus's Hotel. Original lesseee JW Jackson. Previously there was an inn on the site, which then became a store housing the post office. Built on the same plan as original limestone hotel built 1886 which later became Massey's Store & Bakery following objections to a licence in Claremont. In 1985 extensive renovations undertaken and the hotel renamed Cagney's on the Terrace. Further refurbishment in 1990's included a drive-in bottleshop (Cagney's Cellars), and a cocktail lounge (Top of the Terrace). Later known as the Continental, and latterly Redrock Hotel and Redrock Bottleshop. Closed in 2020.
