Historical information

The Claremont War Memorial, situated on the corner of Stirling Highway and Bay View Terrace, Claremont, opened in 1923. The memorial was designed by Edwin Summerhayes. The foundation stone was laid by Talbot Hobbs. Built of Donnybrook stone with marble inserts, the memorial cost £678 in 1922. Construction was financed by public subscription and a £20 donation by the Town of Claremont.

Damaged by moisture and vibration from vehicles, the memorial was restored at a cost of approximately $10,000 in 1994. It was rededicated in October 1995, 73 years to the day after it was first erected.
