Rupert Ashe was born in Katanning in 1921 and moved to Perth in 1928. He later lived at Alfred Carson Nursing Home in Bay Road Claremont and, although confined to a wheel chair suffering from 'spastic paralysis', he was seen in Bay View Terrace every Friday for some 25 years, collecting for charity . He was voted Claremont Citizen of the Year in 1980.
