Overview

Black and white photograph of five women filling buckets and water jars at a battery of six taps in front of a brick wall. There are two concrete steps leading up to the water taps. A small tree leaning to the left is visible on the left hand side of the photograph.The women are dressed in loose flowing clothes and wear head scarves. The woman are the far right of the photograph is wearing a checked pattern upper garment that also covers her head and a floral patterned skirt or lower garment.
REVERSE: Handwritten in blue ink: 'No: 6'.
Above is a purple ink stamp 'ANAND STUDIO,/ Specialists in/ Portraits & Group Photo's/ Gurdwara Road, Karol Bagh, Delhi.'

Historical information

These taps were installed by Messrs E M Allcock and Mohatta Ltd at the village of Jatheri, 20 miles from Delhi. A Metters type 'K' windmill and a 4,000 gal water storage tank supplied the taps.
