Historical information

Thomas James Briggs was born on Packenham Street in Fremantle to Thomas Ernest Briggs and Catherine Caporn Tapping. Married Emma Fletcher about 1884. Lived in Half-Way House on Perth-Fremantle Road (now Albion Hotel site, Stirling Hway). Attended Freshwater Bay School. Was associated with the Claremont Mineral Springs Company in Bay View Terrace, Claremont. Was a councillor & later, Mayor of Claremont 1907-09. Owned houses in Princess and Goldsworthy Roads.
Portraits were possibly taken when the Briggs' family went to Melbourne and lived at Packenham. Their daughter, Hilda, married and lived there. Given TJ Briggs's buttonhole, patterned tie and vest, portraits may have been taken on occasion
