Historical information

Thomas James Briggs was born on Packenham Street, Fremantle. Parents Thomas Ernest Briggs and Catherine Caporn Tapping. Thomas married Emma Grace Fletcher about 1884. Lived in Half-Way House on the Perth-Fremantle Road (later the Albion Hotel site, Stirling Highway). Attended Freshwater Bay School. Was associated with the Claremont Mineral Springs Company in Bay View Terrace, Claremont. Was a councillor and later, Mayor of Claremont 1907-09. Owned houses in Princess Road and Goldsworthy Road. Lived at 'Corry Lynn', 2 Brae Road, Claremont. Children: Albert James (b.1884), Kate Amelia (b.1892), Clarence Henry (b.1890), Ernest Alfred (b.1888), Evelyn Grace (b.1888), Irene Vera Annie (b.1898) and Hilda Mary (1895).

Portraits were possibly taken when the Briggs' family went to Melbourne and lived at Packenham. Their daughter, Hilda, married and lived there. Given Thomas Briggs's buttonhole, patterned tie and vest, portraits may have been taken on occasion.
