Historical information

Alfred Johnston was son of Harry Frederich Johnston, Surveyor General of WA, and brother of Senator EB Johnston (died 1942). Born East Perth, educated at Guildford Grammar School. Completed his Tertiary Study at Melbourne University. Served as a gunner in 103 Howitzer Infantry in the Great War, and was wounded at The Somme. On the outbreak of World War II he joined the Army Medical Corps and served in the Middle East and Mediterranean and when war was over, returned to Perth to practise. Maternal grandparents lived at 46 Victoria Avenue, Claremont. Dr Johnston moved from Colin Street to Victoria Avenue. Dr Johnston had 5 children - Leslie Francis, Laurence Alfred, Jennifer Anne, Annette and Harley.
