Overview

Historical information

The Armadale Mundijong Caledonian Society formed and supported their own pipe band in the 1940's and 50's who played at a variety of community events throughout the wider district. Some time in the 1960s the Society was no longer able to cover the costs of maintaining the pipe band's equipment (i.e. replacement uniforms and the repairing and purchasing of new instrument). In 1976 J.D. Cumming, the Chief of the Armadale Mundijong Caledonian Society (formerly the Mundijong and Districts Caledonian Society) wrote to the Shire Council for financial assistance to restart a Scottish Pipe Band who would be managed by the Caledonian Society. It was estimated that it would cost over $16,000 to restart a 16 person pipe band. On 10 June the Shire responded via a letter from Shire Clerk Alexander Rasmussen that due to the current economic situation they were unable to support the reformation of the pipe band but were expecting the issue to be raised again in the future.
Seven years later the Caledonian Society folded.
