Brown cover in poor condition, the spine particularly shows signs of wear. The spine may possibly have been originally covered by a different material to the front and back covers.
The fabric on the back and front covers has worn through in patches through to the underlying cardboard beneath.
Published by Thomas Nelson and Sons, Paternoster Row, Edinburgh; and New York in 1883.

Historical information

Emma Amelia Solomon,, the original owner of the book per the inscription, was born in 1873 in Adelaide, married Charles Albert Prince in Northam in 1903 and died in 1960.
Emma was the older sister of Mabel Patti Solomon (1877-1924) who is believed to have been the original owner of another book in the Shire of Toodyay collection, "Gibraltar and its Sieges" accession number 2001.1812.

Contextual Information

Charlotte Maria Tucker (8 May 1821 – 2 December 1893) was a prolific English writer and poet for children and adults, who wrote under the pseudonym A.L.O.E. (a Lady of England). Late in life she spent a period as a volunteer missionary in India, where she died.
