Dawn Atwell, the owner of the book per the inscription, was a Toodyay Naturalists' Club founding member, conservationist and Toodyay identity. In 2011 a Toodyay reserve was named after her: the 59 ha Dawn Atwell Reserve on Julimar Road.
The Atwell family farmed in Toodyay from the 1800s and in the 1940s Dawn wore her grandmother's 1885 wedding dress on the occasion of her 21st birthday. (see Shire of Toodyay accession number: 2011.1 )
