“GOVERNMENT OF WESTERN AUSTRALIA / FISHERIES DEPARTMENT / 108 Adelaide Terrace / PERTH / January 28, 1955. / TEL. B2431 / Mr L.O.Moir,/ 40 Parker Street / Lockyer / ALBANY W.A. / Dear Sir / Many thanks indeed for your letter dated 24th January / 1955 with which you enclosed duck band No. 2953. This was / placed on the leg of a black duck at Cockleshell Gully on / October 26, 1954 and was therefore about three hundred and / forty miles away from the banding station. / This is the longest flight of a duck ever recorded / in Western Australia, the previous record being two hundred / and seventy miles from Narrikup to Chittering. It is particularly / interesting to read that the bird weighed 2lbs 4ozs which / would indicate that it was not in poor condition. / In case you would like to keep it as a souvenir, the / band is returned herewith. / Yours faithfully, AJ Fraser / CHIEF WARDEN OF FAUNA”
Stamped on duck band is “RETURN TO FISHERIES DEPT / PERTH / 29563”
