Australian Baseball League Umpire's Cap

Overview

A dark blue baseball umpire's cap made of cotton fabric. Embroidered in white thread on the front of the crown are the letters 'ABL' for the Australian Baseball League. The lining under the visor is white cotton. The vent holes in the crown are stitched with blue thread and the top button is covered in blue fabric. At the back of the crown is a plastic sliding size adjuster.

Historical information

The cap belonged to umpire Ken Smith who has been involved in baseball since 1979 and is known throughout the Australian baseball scene, having umpired State league and Australian league games. A highlight of his career was umpiring at the longest game ever recorded in Australia; the 1989 A-Grade State league grand final in Perth, which ran to 22 innings.
