Australian Baseball Federation umpire's badges/patches

Overview

Two Australian Baseball Federation (ABF) umpire's patches/badges made of green cotton material, rectangular in shape. The patches are embroiderd with the ABF logo of the Southern Cross star constellation over the outline of Australia and a baseball player at bat with the lettering 'ABF' and 'Australian Umpire'. Gold-coloured synthetic thread is used for the embroidery and the overlock stitching on the edges of the patches.

These umpire patches were worn on the uniform of accredited Australian Baseball Federation umpires.

Contextual Information

The Australian Baseball Federation umpire's patches were donated to the Baseball WA Museum & Archives by the family of Alan Luscombe. Alan's career as a baseball umpire spanned local, state, national and international competition levels. He was awarded Life Membership of the West Australian Baseball Umpires Association (WABUA) in 1992.

Statement of significance

The patches have historic significance and add to the Museum's collection of memorabilia relating to Australian baseball umpires. They are in good condition and come with excellent provenance.
