Wedding of H.F. (Frederick) Turner and Fanny Shortland

Overview

Black and white wedding photo featuring a bride and groom and their families. Date unavailable, possibly 1910s.

Historical information

Father of the groom, James Turner was a ticket-of-leave man (a convict who had been given early release), who married Emma Dilley in 1875. The Turners struggled to make a living until The Homestead Act of 1893 made it possible for prospective farmers to gain government assistance to acquire and develop agricultural land. Emma and James purchased a plot in the Boyanup Agricultural Area, which they named Heatherleigh Farm.
