Historical information

Abraham and Ann Hurst, grandparents of the brothers pictured, arrived at Australind in 1842. At some time in the 1860s their son Thomas moved to a location on the Preston River, which he called 'Riverbend'. Elizabeth was the daughter of William and Mary Ecclestone who farmed the nearby 'Acacia'. Thomas and Elizabeth were married in 1868, and went on to produce 13 Hurst children at Riverbend.

Contextual Information

The Preston River on which the Hurst farm Riverbend was located flows through Donnybrook and Boyanup before discharging into the Leschenault Estuary at Bunbury.
