Joseph Langsford 50th Anniversary Claremont Town Council
1948Joseph Wood Langsford in 3 piece suit, hand in pocket, at microphone on canvas covered platform in Claremont Park on occasion of 50th anniversary of Claremont Town Council. Seven men in suits sitting on the dias in cane chairs. Small groups of adults and several children in background. Some bunting strung to a pine tree and dilapidated picket fence of tennis bowling club at rear.
Joseph Wood Langsford was born in South Australia in 1865. Justice of the Peace, Claremont. Married to Agnes Jane Langsford. Four sons (may be more). Holberry Joseph, Arthur Norwood, Claude Nerwington, and Eckersley Wood. Claremont Mayor from 1899-1901. Member of the Legislative Council from 1904-1911. He died in 1957. Former Notre Dame Street was renamed Langsford Street in 1908 for his service to the local community.
