Historical information

Chief Justice Robert Shenton French AC was born in Western Australia in 1947. He attended St Louis School in Claremont and graduated from the University of Western Australia.

Married to Valerie, French was a Claremont Councillor for the South Ward from 1971-1974.

French was appointed to the Federal Court in 1986 and then appointed to the High Court. A member of the Native Title Tribunal from 1994-1998 and of the Supreme Court of Fiji, French was appointed Chief Justice in 2008 being the first one apointed from Western Australia.
