PORTABLE ALARM AND PUBLIC ADDRESS SYSTEM
Rectangle cream body. Front side hollow in the middle is a cream cone with a flat end that finishes in line with the edge of the main body. On the end of the cone is a black badge with red text [FFE].
On the left side in top right corner is a black rectangle panel with silver text [ALERTRONIC]. This is repeated on the opposite side in top left corner.
On the top is a black rectangle panel. At the top of the panel is a black switch that rocks forward and back with red text above the switch [ACTION] and white below the switch [ALERT]. Under this is a rectangle indentation with a black plastic wheel inserted into it with ridges on the rim. Text above the wheel [P.A. VOL.] there is a white line to the right of the wheel that is wide at the top and tapers inwards to form a wedge shape.
Under this is a cylindrical metal switch that toggles left to right. White text on left [NORMAL], on right [BREAK / GLASS].
In bottom left corner is a cylindrical metal switch that toggles up and down. Text above switch [ALARM], white text to left of switch [O/F/F] and white text under [P.A.]. To the right is this is a round metal plug insert with white text under it [MIC.]
To the left of the black panel in the middle is a L shaped metal bracket with a round hole in the top of the vertical part. Horizontal part attached to the PA system with two metal screws. On the top at the front and at the back are metal brackets which a black cloth shoulder strap with metal claps that the ends of the strap are threaded through allowing the strap to be adjusted and fixed.
On the back side is a white plastic panel that covers the area where the batteries are inserted. Grey label at top of panel with manufacturing information on it.
On the bottom side are four plastic round feet, one in each corner. Between the front two feet is a round metal three prong plug insert. In the middle above the centre is a round white piece of plastic with a cylindrical pin that is on a spring and is pushed in then the PA is standing on its feet
When the COA took over the management of the Armadale Arena in 2008 this portable PA system was found in a cupboard. It had been used by the previous management group to sound emergency alarms for evacuations and to instruct patrons on how to evacuate.
When the City took over the building they installed a emergency evacuation system.
